AFTER GOING THOUGH A POOL OF 50 POTENTIAL JURORS BEFORE FINALLY SELECTING A JURY THE PAST FEW DAYS, TESTIMONY IS SET TO BEGIN IN WASHINGTON COUNTY TENNESSEE CRIMINAL COURT IN THE TRIAL OF A MAN ACCUSED OF HIS PART IN A 2005 MURDER IN JOHNSON CITY. 28 YEAR OLD JASON AUSTIN IS CHARGED WITH FIRST-DEGREE MURDER IN THE SHOOTING DEATH OF 21 YEAR OLD BRIAN RICKER. THE INCIDENT OCCURRED IN THE DAYS INN PARKING LOT ON BROWNS MILL ROAD IN JOHNSON CITY. DEFENSE ATTORNEY GENE SCOTT SAID HE PLANS TO BUILD A CASE FOR AUSTIN AROUND SELF DEFENSE. POLICE OFFICERS WHO WORKED THE CRIME SCENE ARE EXPECTED TO TESTIFY IN THE TRIAL TODAY. MEANWHILE, AUSTIN’S CO-DEFENDENT AND COUSIN, 23 YEAR OLD DANNY GREENE IS SERVING A 23 YEAR PRISON SENTENCE AFTER BEING CONVICTED ON A LESSER CHARGE OF SECOND DEGREE MURDER LAST AUGUST. AUSTIN’S TRIAL IS EXPECTED TO LAST SEVERAL DAYS.
