THE SULLIVAN COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION HAS DIPPED INTO MILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN RESERVES TO HELP BALANCE IT’S BUDGET. BOARD LEADERS HAVE ENDORSED A 91.4 MILLION DOLLAR SPENDING PLAN AS OF YESTERDAY TO USE FOR THIS FISCAL YEAR. IN ORDER TO BALANCE THE BUDGET, 2.64 MILLION DOLLARS HAD TO BE PULLED FROM THE SYSTEM’S ESTIMATED 6-MILLION DOLLAR RESERVE. THIS MARKS THE LARGEST AMOUNT OF FUND BALANCE EVER USED TO KEEP THE SYSTEM’S BOOKS IN THE BLACK AT THE BEGINNING OF A BUDGET CYCLE.
