A prominent conservative political action committee is shifting its attention away from Republican Senate Speaker Ron Ramsey in the aftermath of a disputed congressional primary in upper northeast Tennessee. Jim Holcomb, a former state senator and treasurer of the Tennessee Conservative PAC, tells The Associated Press he was angered when Ramsey spoke out against a potential challenge by Rep. David Davis of the GOP primary results in the 1st Congressional District. Holcomb said he had asked Ramsey to remain neutral while Davis considered whether to challenge his loss to Johnson City Mayor Phil Roe by fewer than 500 votes. But Ramsey, who had supported Davis during the campaign, told a local newspaper that a challenge would be “a major mistake.” Davis ultimately conceded to Roe more than a week after the Aug.7 primary.
