JURY SELECTION IS EXPECTED TO GET UNDERWAY TODAY IN WASHINGTON COUNTY TENNESSEE CRIMINAL COURT IN THE TRIAL FOR ONE OF TWO MEN ACCUSED OF KILLING A JONESBORUGH MAN JUST OVER THREE YEARS AGO. 28 YEAR OLD JASON AUSTIN IS CHARGED WITH FIRST-DEGREE MURDER IN THE JUNE 2005 SHOOTING DEATH OF 21 YEAR OLD BRIAN RICKER. THE SHOOTING OCCURRED IN THE DAYS INN PARKING LOT ON BROWNS MILL ROAD IN JOHNSON CITY. HE’S CURRENTLY JAILED ON 500-THOUSAND DOLLARS BOND. HIS CO-DEFENDENT AND COUSIN, 23 YEAR OLD DANNY GREENE WAS ALSO CHARGED WITH FIRST-DEGREE MURDER AND TRIED IN AUGUST 2007, BUT WAS CONVICTED OF A LESSER CHARGE OF SECOND DEGREE MURDER. HE WAS SENTENCED TO 23 YEARS IN PRISON. HE HAS A PENDING MOTION FOR A NEW TRIAL. AUSTIN’S TRIAL COULD LAST THROUGH THE END OF THE WEEK.
