AN INTERNAL PROBE BY THE SMYTH COUNTY, VIRGINIA SHERIFF’S OFFICE IS POINTING FINGERS AT TWO OF ITS DEPUTIES. ACCORDING TO SHERIFF DAVID BRADLEY, THE INVESTIGATION WAS LAUNCHED AS THE RESULT OF SWORN AFFADAVITS LINKING THE OFFICERS TO AN ONGOING DRUG INVESTIGATION. BRADLEY REFUSED TO COMMENT ON REPORTS THAT A DEPUTY HAS BEEN FIRED AND ANOTHER SUSPENDED AND SAYS HE WANTS TO LEAVE IT UP TO THE U.S. DRUG ENFORCEMENT ADMINISTRATION. IN A STATEMENT ISSUED BY THE SHERIFF, HE HAS OPENED AN INTERNAL INVESTIGATION WHICH IS CURRENTLY ONGOING. COMMONWEALTH’S ATTORNEY ROY EVANS DECLINED TO COMMENT AS WELL AND ONLY TO REFUTE A RUMOR THAT SAID A CALLED SESSION OF THE GRAND JURY WAS SET TO CONSIDER INDICTMENTS. THE MATTER IS STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION.
