U.S. Rep David Davis says he’s seriously considering contesting the recent Republican primary he lost to Johnson City Mayor Phil Roe. Roe defeated the freshman incumbent in the 1st District Republican primary last Thursday by 486 votes out of more than 51,000 ballots cast. Earlier this week, Davis said in a statement that it had come to his attention that “there may have been some outside groups who sought to improperly influence the Republican primary.” Yesterday he issued another statement saying he believes “there is clear and overwhelming evidence” that the integrity of the primary was violated unlawfully. Davis didn’t identify anyone specifically, except to say “huge numbers of Democrats” were involved. Tennessee state law allows for a vote recount in elections if there’s an indication of fraud affecting enough votes that it could change result of the election
