FOR THE FOURTH TIME IN TWO YEARS, DAMASCUS VIRGINIA HAS A NEW POLICE CHIEF. BRISTOL TENNESSEE FIREFIGHTER BILL NUNLEY HAS BEEN SELECTED BY THE TOWN COUNCIL TO BE THE NEW POLICE CHIEF. THE DECISION WAS MADE FOLLOWING A LENGTHY CLOSED SESSION MEETING YESTERDAY. NUNLEY IS A FORMER WASHINGTON COUNTY VIRGINIA SHERIFF’S DEPUTY WHO ALSO HEADS A PRIVATE INVESTIGATION FIRM. ACTING CHIEF STEVEN MCVEY SUBMITTED HIS RESIGNATION EARLIER THIS WEEK. HE WAS INTERIM CHIEF AFTER JOHN ROUSE WAS FIRED IN JULY. NUNLEY CLAIMS THE THREE REMAINING OFFICERS WILL SEE MORE DISCIPLINE THAN THEY’VE SEEN IN THE PAST AND THEY’LL ALSO SEE MORE TRAINING AND HIGHER EXPECTATIONS. IN OTHER BUSINESS, GAYLE KARRIKER WAS SELECTED DURING THE SAME SESSION TO SERVE AS THE TOWN CLERK.
