DAMASCUS VIRGINIA WILL SOON BE WITHOUT YET ANOTHER POLICE CHIEF. ACTING CHIEF STEVEN MCVEY SUBMITTED HIS RESIGNATION TO THE TOWN COUNCIL YESTERDAY. HE WAS APPOINTED INTERIM CHIEF AFTER POLICE CHIEF JOHN ROUSE WAS FIRED IN JULY. MCVEY SAID HIS DECISION TO LEAVE WAS MADE WHEN THE TOWN COUNCIL HELD IT’S AUGUST MEETING AND DISCUSSED DISCIPLINING OR EVEN FIRING HIM FOR WORKING OVERTIME TO COMPLETE A BURGLARY INVESTIGATION WHILE ALSO FILLING IN AS CHIEF. HE SAID THE TOWN’S ELECTED LEADERS DON’T APPRECIATE THE WORK THEIR POLICE OFFICERS DO AND TREAT THEM POORLY. CURRENTLY, JUST THREE OF THE TOWN’S SIX OFFICERS REMAIN. MCVEY SAID HE HAS ANOTHER LAW ENFORCEMENT JOB LINED UP IN A NEARBY JURISDICTION.
