Tennessee Congressman David Davis, whose re-election bid was ended in a Republican primary loss, says he believes there may have been improper influence on the election. Johnson City Mayor Phil Roe defeated the freshman incumbent in the 1st District Republican primary on Thursday by a 486-vote margin. Davis has hired a national law firm to examine the election which cost him his job in Washington. He said in a statement yesterday that it has come to his attention that “there may have been some outside groups who sought to improperly influence the Republican primary.” Davis did not specify what groups he was referring to. Tennessee state law allows for a vote recount in elections if there’s an indication of fraud affecting enough votes that it could change result of the election.
