TENNESSEE VOTERS ARE GOING TO THE POLLS TODAY TO CAST BALLOTS IN THE AUGUST PRIMARY. THREE REPUBLICANS ARE SEEKING THE 1ST CONGRESSIONAL SEAT. THEY ARE INCUMBENT DAVID DAVIS, JOHNSON CITY MAYOR PHIL ROE AND MAHMOOD SABRI. ON THE DEMOCRATIC SIDE IT’S ROB RUSSELL AND MICHAEL DONIHE. MEANWHILE, ONE OF FIVE DEMOCRATS ARE HOPING FOR A CHANCE TO RUN AGAINST U.S. SENATOR LAMAR ALEXANDER IN THE NOVEMBER ELECTION. IN SULLIVAN COUNTY, VOTERS WILL CAST BALLOTS FOR SEVERAL COMMISSION SEATS, PROPERTY ASSESSOR, FOUR SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS AS WELL AS ALL 24 COUNTY CONSTABLE SLOTS. IN ELIZABETHTON, VOTERS WILL CONSIDER A REFERENDUM ON A SALES TAX HIKE. THE ADDITIONAL MONEY IS NEEDED IN ORDER FOR THE COUNTY TO COMPLY WITH A STATE ORDER TO HANDLE THE OVERCROWDING CONDITIONS AT THE LOCAL JAIL. POLLS WILL OPEN IN MOST PLACES ACROSS THE STATE AT EIGHT O’CLOCK AND CLOSE AT EIGHT O’CLOCK TONIGHT.
