A KINGSPORT NURSING HOME HAS BEEN ORDERED BY THE STATE TO REFUND MORE THAN 85-THOUSAND DOLLARS. ACCORDING TO AN AUDIT REPORT FROM THE TENNESSEE COMPTROLLER’S OFFICE, THE WEXFORD HOUSE REPORTED NEARLY 35-THOUSAND DOLLARS IN NON-ALLOWABLE EXPENSES TO MEDICAID DURING THE 2005 FISCAL YEAR. INCLUDED IN THE EXPENSE REPORT WAS ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES AND MEAL PURCHASES, UNEXPLAINED TRAVEL COSTS, AND OTHER UNSUPPORTED EXPENSES AND CHARGES NOT RELATED TO PATIENT CARE. THOSE CLAIMS RESULTED IN THE FACILITY BEING OVERPAID. WEXFORD HOUSE ALSO FAILED TO REFUND MORE THAN 36-THOUSAND DOLLARS TO MEDICAID, MORE THAN 25-THOUSAND DOLLARS TO MEDICARE, MORE THAN 7-THOUSAND DOLLARS TO FORMER RESIDENTS AND MORE THAN 4-THOUSAND DOLLARS TO INSURANCE PROVIDERS. IN ADDITION, 75 MEDICAID RESIDENTS’ TRUST FUND ACCOUNTS WERE INCORRECTLY CHARGED FOR HAIRCUTS THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN FREE. THE NURSING HOME IS WORKING ON A PLAN TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING IN THE FUTURE.
