THE DAMASCUS VIRGINIA TOWN COUNCIL TOOK NO ACTION TO HIRE A NEW POLICE CHIEF THIS WEEK. MAYOR CREED JONES SAID THE NUMBER OF CANDIDATES FOR THE JOB HAS BEEN NARROWED DOWN TO TWO PEOPLE, WHICH REMAIN UNIDENTIFIED. THE TOWN’S FORMER POLICE CHIEF, JOHN ROUSE, WAS FIRED BY THE COUNCIL IN JULY. HE’S THE FOURTH POLICE CHIEF TO BE FIRED IN FOUR YEARS. MEANWHILE, POLICE PATROLS IN THE TOWN ARE BACK TO 24 HOURS. THIS AFTER THE MAYOR CUT POLICE PROTECTION BETWEEN MIDNIGHT AND SIX O’CLOCK.
