East Tennessee State University is tightening its tobacco free policy. Beginning August 11th, the only place people will be able to legally light up on campus will be inside personal vehicles.
Repeat student violators will be handled through the judicial
process and staff violators will be handled through the human
resources office. Bill Rasnick, who heads up the campus tobacco-free committee said the current ban on smoking inside buildings resulted in people gathering under entrance canopies in bad weather. Rasnick says 15 banners are being put up around campus, advising people of the new policy. Permanent signs will be placed around the perimeter of the campus.
