THIS PAST WEEKEND’S REMOTE AREA MEDICAL, OR RAM, HEALTH EXPEDITION IN WISE, VIRGINIA, WAS DEEMED A SUCCESS FOR THE MOST PART. ORGANIZERS SAY A RECORD NUMBER OF PEOPLE RECEIVED CARE, BUT ALSO A RECORD NUMBER OF PEOPLE HAD TO BE TURNED AWAY. ACCORDING TO TERESA GARNER, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF “THE HEALTH WAGON,” WHICH COORDINATES THE ANNUAL EVENT IN WISE, IT WAS A SUCCESS, BUT THEIR SUCCESS IS A FAILURE OF THE HEALTH CARE SYSTEM. PRELIMINARY FIGURES SHOW OVER 25-HUNDRED PEOPLE WERE SEEN FRIDAY THROUGH SUNDAY DURING THE EVENT AT THE WISE COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS. THAT’S SLIGHTLY MORE THAN LAST YEAR. THE PRELIMINARY ESTIMATE FOR THE VALUE OF CARE PROVIDED EXCEEDS 1.5 MILLION DOLLARS.
