THE TENNESSEE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION SAYS NEARLY FIVE PERCENT OF THE STATE’S BRIDGES ARE STRUCTURALLY DEFICIENT. IN THE KINGSPORT AREA, HAMMOND BRIDGE ON FORT HENRY DRIVE, THE U.S. 19E BRIDGE AT INDIAN CREEK, THE SOUTH WILCOX DRIVE BRIDGE OVER THE HOLSTON RIVER, AND THE STATE ROUTE 394 BRIDGE OVER REEDY CREEK ALL HAVE STRUCTURAL DEFICINCIES. REPAIR WORK IS UNDERWAY ON SEVERAL OF THESE STRUCTURES. TENNESSEE RANKS SIXTH IN THE U.S. FOR THE LEAST NUMBER OF STRUCTURALLY DEFICIENT BRIDGES.
