A FREAK ACCIDENT IN GREENE COUNTY HAS CLAIMED THE LIVES OF TWO TOWN OF MOSHEIM EMPLOYEES. EMERGENCY PERSONNEL RESPONDED THIS AFTERNOON BEHIND TONY’S WRECKER SERVICE NEAR EXIT 23 OFF INTERSTATE 81. THE TWO MEN, 21 YEAR OLD JEREMY GOFORTH AND 40 YEAR OLD RONNIE CARMICHAEL, WERE WORKING INSIDE AN UNDERGROUND SEPTIC TANK. THE FIRST WORKER WAS EITHER ELECTROCUTED OR WAS OVERCOME BY METHANE GAS, WHILE A SECOND DIED TRYING TO RESCUE HIM. A THIRD WORKER WAS ABLE TO SHUT OFF THE POWER, THUS ENABLING EMERGENCY PERSONNEL TO RENDER AID. THE BODIES OF THE TWO VICTIMS WHOSE NAMES HAVE NOT BEEN RELEASED HAVE BEEN SENT TO THE UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE IN KNOXVILLE FOR AN AUTOPSY TO DETERMINE THE EXACT CAUSE OF DEATH. THE INVESTIGATION IS CONTINUING.
