THE NINTH ANNUAL REMOTE AREA MEDICAL (RAM) HEALTH EXPEDITION AT THE WISE COUNTY VIRGINIA FAIRGROUNDS BEGINS TODAY. THE EVENT OFFERS FREE MEDICAL, DENTAL, AND EYE CARE SERVICES. LAST YEAR’S RAM RECORDED MORE THAN 84-HUNDRED PATIENTS WHO RECEIVED BETTER THAN AN ESTIMATED 1.4-MILLION DOLLARS WORTH OF FREE BASIC HEALTH CARE SERVICES. RAM OPENS AT 6 A.M. TODAY THROUGH SUNDAY, AND IS ON A FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED BASIS. SOME OF THE FREE SERVICES OFFERED ARE HEARING EXAMS, CHEST X-RAYS, BONE DENSITY AND DIABETES SCREENING. THE FIRST RAM EVENT WAS AT LONESOME PINE AIRPORT IN 2000, BUT WAS MOVED TO THE FAIRGROUNDS AFTER BEING SWAMPED BY PEOPLE SEEKING MEDICAL ATTENTION.
