ALTHOUGH A HAWKINS COUNTY TOWN HAS BEEN WITHOUT ITS OWN POLICE DEPARTMENT FOR FIVE YEARS, LEADERS ARE CONSIDERING THE POSSIBILITY OF RE-ESTABLISHING ONE. THE BULLS GAP BOARD OF MAYOR AND ALDERMEN HAS VOTED TO PUT A NON-BINDING RESOLUTION ON THE NOVEMBER BALLOT IN HAWKINS COUNTY ASKING CITIZENS IF THEY SUPPORT BRINGING BACK A POLICE DEPARTMENT. ACCORDING TO MAYOR ROBIN HORNER, THE RESOLUTION DOESN’T MEAN THE TOWN WILL PROCEED WITH PLANS TO BRING A POLICE DEPARTMENT BACK – JUST TO GUAGE IF THE RESIDENTS WANT ONE BACK. IF THE RESOLUTION PASSES, HORNER SAID THE BOARD WOULD THEN SEARCH FOR WAYS TO FUND THE DEPARTMENT. SINCE BULLS GAP’S POLICE DEPARTMENT WAS DISMANTLED IN 2003, THE HAWKINS COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT HAS BEEN PATROLING THE SMALL TOWN.
