PRELIMINARY AUTOPSY RESULTS ARE SHEDDING NEW LIGHT ON THE RECENT DEATH OF A CHURCH HILL INFANT. SIX MONTH OLD ZOEY HAWKINS WAS ORIGINALLY THOUGHT TO HAVE DIED FROM SUDDEN INFANT DEATH SYNDROME, BUT A PRELIMINARY AUTOPSY HAS REVEALED THE LITTLE GIRL DIED FROM SEVERE HEAD TRAUMA. THE CHILD WAS RUSHED TO A KINGSPORT HOSPITAL ON JULY 4TH AFTER HAVING TROUBLE BREATHING. SHE DIED A SHORT TIME LATER. THE MEDICAL EXAMINER’S PRELIMINARY REPORT SHOWED THE SKULL HAD BEEN FRACTURED AND THERE HAD BEEN SWELLING OF THE BRAIN. THE INCIDENT IS NOW BEING INVESTIGATED AS A SUSPICIOUS DEATH. THE TENNESSEE BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION AS WELL AS AN INVESTIGATOR WITH THE ATTORNEY GENERAL’S OFFICE ARE ASSISTING THE CHURCH HILL POLICE DEPARTMENT IN THIS INVESTIGATION. SO FAR, NO CHARGES HAVE BEEN FILED.
