A BRISTOL TENNESSEE MAN ACCUSED OF CHILD ABUSE HAS BEEN CLEARED BY A SULLIVAN COUNTY JURY. 22 YEAR OLD MICHAEL EDWARDS HAD BEEN CHARGED WITH CHILD ABUSE. HE’D BEEN ACCUSED OF BREAKING THE ANKLE OF HIS GIRLFRIEND’S 2-MONTH OLD CHILD IN NOVEMBER 2005. SULLIVAN COUNTY ASSISTANT DISTRICT ATTORNEY AMBER MASSENGILL SAID DOCTORS DESCRIBED THE BREAK AS THE RESULT OF A TWISTING MOTION. EDWARDS TESTIFIED THAT HE CHANGED THE BABY’S DIAPER BY HOLDING THE CHILD’S LEGS WITH HIS LEFT HAND AND CHANGING THE DIAPER. HE SAID HE LEARNED TO DO IT THAT WAY IN A PARENTING CLASS. THE JURY APPARENTLY BELIEVED HIM AND ACQUITTED EDWARDS. THE CHILD IS ALRIGHT.
