GREENE COUNTY AUTHORITIES HAVE CONFIRMED THE SHOOTING DEATH OF A KINGSPORT HIGHWAY MAN WHO HAD HELD POLICE AT BAY FOR 13 HOURS BEGINNING ON TUESDAY EVENING. THE MAN, WHOSE IDENTIFY HAS NOT BEEN RELEASED, BARRICADED HIMSELF INSIDE HIS RESIDENCE BEFORE BEING SHOT TO DEATH. SHERIFF STEVE BURNS SAYS THE INCIDENT BEGAN WHEN DEPUTIES RESPONDED TO A POSSIBLE BURGLARY AT THE RESIDENCE ON HIGHWAY 93. DURING THE STANDOFF, SEVERAL SHOTS WERE REPORTEDLY FIRED BY THE MAN INSIDE. DEPUTIES ENTERED THE RESIDENCE ON WEDNESDAY MORNING, SHOTS WERE FIRED, AND THE MAN WAS FOUND DEAD IN THE LIVING ROOM AREA. THE INVESTIGATION IS CONTINUING.
