ST. PAUL VIRGINIA IS WITHOUT A POLICE CHIEF YET AGAIN. THE TOWN COUNCIL FIRED ACTING CHEIF SCOTT BROOKS YESTERDAY. HE SURVIVED ONLY A YEAR SINCE THE PREVIOUS CHIEF WAS FIRED. HE WAS GIVEN THE OPTION TO EITHER ACCEPT A MUCH LOWER PAYING JOB AS AN ENTRY-LEVEL PATROLMAN OR ACCEPT A SEVERANCE PACKAGE WORTH A MONTH’S SALARY AND GO ON HIS WAY. BROOKS TOLD THE BOARD HE’LL TAKE THE SEVERANCE PACKAGE. HE WENT ON TO SAY THAT POLITICS IN THE TOWN ARE VERY BAD AND THIS HAS MADE IT DIFFICULT TO HOLD DOWN THE JOB OF POLICE CHIEF.
