A RECENT CRIME REPORT FROM THE VIRGINIA STATE POLICE FOUND THAT THE COMMONWEALTH EXPERIENCED A SECOND YEAR OF INCREASES IN REPORTED DRUG AND NARCOTIC OFFENSES. TAZEWELL COUNTY COMMONWEALTH ATTORNEY DENNIS LEE SAID HE WAS NOT SURPRISED TO SEE THE STATE WIDE INCREASE. HE SAID THE ABUSE OF PRESCRIPTION NARCOTICS IS STILL A SIGNIFICANT PROBLEM AND OXYCONTIN IS STILL THE MOST POPULAR HARD NARCOTIC ON THE STREET. HOWEVER, HE BELIEVES THE MAJORITY OF NARCOTICS ARE COMING FROM OUTSIDE AREAS. IN PARTICULAR, HE SAID HIS OFFICE HAS PROSECUTED CASES OF DRUGS BEING IMPORTED FROM NORTH CAROLINA, MICHIGAN, AND INDIANA.
