THE OWNER AND OPERATOR OF A JOHNSON CITY NURSING HOME CONVICTED OF MEDICAID FRAUD IN U.S. DISTRICT COURT IN GREENEVILLE HAS HAD HER SENTENCING POSTPONED AGAIN AND THIS TIME, INDEFINITELY. BILLIE ANDERSON, OWNER OF ANDERSON HEALTH CARE, WAS FOUND GUILTY LAST YEAR OF DEFRAUDING MEDICAID OF 1.4 MILLION DOLLARS. SHE WAS ACCUSED OF CONCEALING FROM THE GOVERNMENT THAT THE NURSING HOME WAS WITHOUT A MEDICAL DIRECTOR FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. YESTERDAY, HER ATTORNEYS ASSERTED NEWLY DISCOVERED EVIDENCE, WHICH COULD RESULT IN HER ACQUITTAL. ANDERSON’S ATTORNEY, DAN SMITH FILED A MOTION FOR A NEW TRIAL THIS WEEK, AFTER RECEIVING INFORMATION THAT CONTRADICTS TESTIMONY IN THE TRIAL. A NEW TRIAL COULD BE POSSIBLE FOR ANDERSON.
