A FEDERAL MAGISTRATE HAS REVOKED THE BOND OF A COEBURN VIRGINIA MAN ACCUSED OF STARTING A BLAZE THAT DESTROYED A HISTORIC WISE COUNTY OBSERVATION TOWER. 22 YEAR OLD NICHOLAS OWENS, A COEBURN VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTER, IS CHARGED WITH SETTING THE FIRE THAT DESTROYED THE HIGH KNOB OBSERVATION TOWER AND A RESTROOM BUILDING LAST HALLOWEEN. SINCE HIS BOND WAS SET FOUR MONTHS AGO, OWENS VIOLATED THE CONDITIONS OF HIS RELEASE NEARLY A DOZEN TIMES. HE PLED GUILTY IN MARCH TO ARSON AND LYING TO FEDERAL AUTHORITIES. OWENS IS SET FOR A TRIAL NEXT MONTH IN BIG STONE GAP, VIRGINIA. MEANWHILE, A CO-DEFENDANT, CHRISOPHER HYATT, HAS FILED A NOTICE THAT HE WILL PLEAD GUILTY TO THE SAME CHARGES NEXT MONTH.
