LOCAL RED CROSS VOLUNTEERS CONTINUE TO PROVIDE RELIEF EFFORTS TO THE VICTIMS OF THE RECENT MIDWEST FLOOD. NINE VOLUNTEERS FROM THE TRI CITIES REGION HAVE BEEN DEPLOYED WHILE FOUR OTHER ARE AWAITING ASSIGNMENTS. WHILE FLOODING ALONG THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER AND ITS TRIBUTARIES CONTINUE TO MOVE SOUTHWARD, RED CROSS VOLUNTEERS HAVE JOINED RELIEF EFFORTS IN WISCONSIN, IOWA, AND INDIANA. GLENDA BOBALIK, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE NORTHEAST TENNESSEE CHAPTEROF THE AMERICAN RED CROSS SAID, IN ADDITION TO THE VOLUNTEERS TRAVELING TO AND FROM THE MIDWEST, THE NATIONAL RED CROSS CALL CENTER IN KINGSPORT HAS BEEN ACTIVATED. ABOUT A DOZEN VOLUNTEERS ARE WORKING IN THE CALL CENTER ANSWERING DISTRESS CALLS FROM THE PEOPLE IN THE AFFECTED AREAS.
