AN ESCAPED JAIL INMATE IN VIRGINIA WHO KILLED A HOSPITAL SECURITY GUARD AND A SHERIFF’S DEPUTY HAS BEEN SENTENCED TO DEATH BY A JUDGE IN A MONTGOMERY COUNTY COURT. WILLIAM MORVA WAS CONVICTED OF CAPITAL MURDER IN MARCH BY A JURY FOR THE DEATHS OF HOSPITAL SECURITY GUARD DERRICK MCFARLAND AND CORPORAL ERIC SUTPHIN, BOTH KILLED IN AUGUST OF 2006. MORVA WAS CONVICTED OF OVERPOWERING A SHERIFF’S DEPUTY AT A HOSPITAL AND USING THE DEPUTY’S PISTOL TO KILL THE TWO MEN. THE JURY HAD RECOMMENDED THE DEATH PENALTY.
