A JOHNSON CITY MAN WAS AT THE THE RIGHT PLACE AT THE RIGHT TIME. 36 YEAR OLD JEREMY WELLS WAS GETTING GAS FOR HIS CAR WHEN AN OFF-DUTY JOHNSON CITY POLICE OFFICER RECOGNIZED HIM. WELLS WAS ARRESTED AT A CONVENIENCE STORE ON BROADWAY ON CHARGES OF KIDNAPPING, ROBBERY AND FOUR COUNTS OF THEFT UNDER 500 DOLLARS. THE CHARGES STEM FROM AN INCIDENT AT FOOD LION ON MAIN STREET LAST WEEK IN WHICH WELLS ALLEGEDLY STOLE STEAKS WITHOUT PAYING FOR THEM. WHEN HE WALKED OUT OF THE STORE HE ALLEGEDLY APPROACHED A WOMAN IN THE PARKING LOT ASKING FOR A RIDE. WHEN SHE DECLINED, HE GOT IN ANYWAY AND LAID THE SEAT BACK IN AN EFFORT TO HIDE. THE VICTIM SAID SHE WAS IN FEAR OF SERIOUS INJURY AND DROVE WELLS TO A PARKING LOT NEAR THE KEYSTONE HOUSING DEVELOPMENT. SHE THEN WENT HOME AND CALLED POLICE. WELLS IS BEING HELD ON A 54-THOUSAND DOLLARS BOND AND WILL BE ARRAIGNED TODAY IN GENERAL SESSIONS COURT.
