BRISTOL VIRGINIA OFFICIALS ARE CONCERNED ABOUT THE WATER LEVELS AT SOUTH HOLSTON LAKE. THE WATERWAY IS THE CITY’S ONLY SOURCE OF DRINKING WATER. MAYOR JIM RECTOR SAID THE ONLY THING THAT WILL TURN THIS AROUND IS RAIN, WHICH THE AREA HAS NOT SEEN MUCH OF IN QUITE AWHILE. TVA SPOKESMAN GIL FRANCIS SAID THE CURRENT WATER LEVELS ARE ABOUT THREE FEET LOWER THAN IN JUNE OF LAST YEAR AND WELL BELOW NORMAL. THE BRISTOL VIRGINIA CITY COUNCIL APPROVED A DROUGHT EMERGENCY PLAN LAST FALL THAT INCLUDES VOLUTARY WATER CONSERVATION MEASURES WHICH ARE STILL IN EFFECT.
