THE TRIAL FOR ONE OF TWO SUSPECTS ACCUSED IN THE KILLING OF A BIG STONE GAP MAN NEARLY 21 YEARS AGO HAS BEEN CONTINUED. JOHN TERRY IS CHARGED WITH FIRST DEGREE MURDER IN THE NOVEMBER 1986 KILLING OF 85 YEAR OLD ODIE DUFF. AUTHORITIES USED A DNA DATA BASE AT A PRISON TO GET A POSITIVE MATCH. MEANWHILE, 47 YEAR OLD ROBERT LEE BANKS OF NORTH CAROLINA IS FACING A FIRST DEGREE MURDER CHARGE FOR HIS PART IN THE CRIME. A GOVERNOR’S WARRANT HAS BEEN ISSUED TO EXTRADITE BANKS BACK FROM NORTH CAROLINA. BANKS ALSO IS CHARGED WITH ABDUCTION, A THEFT CHARGE AND THREE COUNTS OF CONSPIRACY. THE COMMONWEALTH SAYS TERRY AND BANKS COULD GET THE DEATH PENALTY IF CONVICTED. PROSECUTORS ARE HOPING TO TRY THE TWO MEN TOGETHER.
