A MAN ACCUSED OF ABDUCTING HIS ESTRANGED WIFE AND THEIR FOUR YEAR OLD SON IN SOUTH CAROLINA IS BEHIND BARS IN SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA. 45 YEAR OLD ROBERT WILLIAM CUSTER WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY IN GILES COUNTY BY A U.S. MARSHALS TASK FORCE AND THE VIRGINIA STATE POLICE AFTER AN AMBER ALERT WAS ISSUED FOR THE CHILD. CUSTER ALLEGEDLY TOOK HIS WIFE AND SON FROM LEXINGTON SOUTH CAROLINA, LOCKED HER IN A GAS STATION BATHROOM IN COLUMBIA AND CONTINUED TRAVELING TO VIRGINIA WITH THE FOUR YEAR OLD BOY. CUSTER WHO HAD JOINT CUSTODY OF THE BOY, HAD VIOLATED HIS CUSTODIAL RIGHTS AND WARRANTS WERE ISSUED FOR HIS ARREST. THE YOUNGSTER WILL BE REUNITED WITH HIS MOTHER SOON. CUSTER IS BEING HELD IN THE NEW RIVER VALLEY REGIONAL JAIL ON STATE CHARGES OF BEING A FUGITIVE FROM JUSTICE ON ONE COUNT OF KIDNAPPING. ADDITIONAL CHARGES ARE PENDING IN BOTH VIRGINIA AND SOUTH CAROLINA.
