SULLIVAN COUNTY COMMISSIONERS COULD DECIDE TODAY IF THEY WILL CUT OFF FUNDING TO LOCAL AMERICAN LEGION PROGRAMS. IF THAT ACTION IS TAKEN, THE MONEY WOULD BE REDIRECTED TO PAY FOR A NEW BLOUNTVILLE BASED COUNTY POSITION. COUNTY COMMISSIONER SAM JONES IS SPONSOR OF THE RESOLUTION THAT WOULD CREATE A NEW COUNTY VETERANS SERVICE OFFICER. UNDER JONES’ PROPOSAL, COUNTY MAYOR STEVE GODSEY WOULD APPOINT THE PERSON. MEANWHILE, COUNTY LEADERS COULD DECIDE ON A PROPOSAL TO ASK THE TENNESSEE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO LEAVE A BRIDGE THAT IS SOON TO BE REPLACED, WHERE IT’S AT IN ORDER FOR PEDESTRIANS TO USE IT. THE MEETING GETS UNDERWAY THIS MORNING AT NINE O’CLOCK IN THE OLD COURTHOUSE.
