Police in Tusculum say a man’s attempt to drive off without paying for gasoline escalated into a host of charges before he was caught. Arrest warrants for William Curtis Myers of Greeneville said Myers drove away from a market without paying for $44 in fuel. When an officer tried to stop Myers’ car, the suspect took off. While being chased, Myers struck a parked car and kept driving, finally crashing in the Clear Springs community. He then tried to run away through a briar patch. When the pursuing officer caught Myers, the report states police found 2- and 4-year-old girls in his car. The charges include evading arrest, reckless endangerment, leaving the scene of an accident, theft, driving on a suspended license and having no proof of insurance. Once in jail, Myers was also served a warrant for failing to appear in court on a previous charge.
