THE FUTURE OF THE CAPITAL THEATRE IN DOWNTOWN GREENEVILLE IS IN LIMBO. THE RURAL DEVELOPMENT AGENCY OF THE U.S. DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE HAS SAID ITS FORECLOSING ON A 500-THOUSAND DOLLAR LOAN IT HANDED THE THEATER IN 2002. THE AGENCY IS ASKING THAT CAPITAL SELL THE PLACE AT AUCTION TO THE HIGHEST BIDDER ON JUNE 26TH. THE THEATER IS TWO YEARS IN DEFAULT ON THE ANNUAL 29-THOUSAND DOLLAR PAYMENTS TO THE RURAL DEVELOPMENT AGENCY. THE OWNERS OF CAPITAL HOPE FUNDS WILL COME IN TO SAVE THE HISTORIC FACILITY BEFORE IT’S PLACED ON THE AUCTION BLOCK.
