THE CITY OF WATAUGA HAS DECIDED IT WILL PROVIDE FOR IT’S OWN POLICE PROTECTION. THE SMALL TOWN DECIDED SEVERAL YEARS AGO TO ALLOW THE CARTER COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE TO PROVIDE POLICE SERVICES AT A COST OF 26-THOUSAND DOLLARS A YEAR. WELL, SHERIFF CHRIS MATHES SAYS HIS DEPARTMENT IS GOING IN THE HOLE AND NEEDED TO RAISE THE FEES.
