A JOHNSON CITY MAN ACCUSED OF KILLING ANOTHER MAN NEARLY TWO YEARS AGO WILL SOON KNOW THE STATUS OF HIS CASE. 41 YEAR OLD PONCHO JUAN DELGADO IS CHARGED WITH FIRST DEGREE MURDER IN THE MAY 2006 FATAL STABBING OF ROBERT CURTIS. CURTIS’ BODY WAS FOUND INSIDE HIS BURNING HOME ON EAST FAIRVIEW AVENUE. TESTIMONY IN THE TRIAL WAS INTERRUPTED AFTER A JUDGE BECAME ILL. ATTORNEYS THOUGHT A MISTRIAL HAD BEEN DECLARED, BUT JUDGE CUPP DENIED EVER DECLARING IT. LETTERS HAVE BEEN SENT TO THE 12 JURORS IN THE CASE REQUESTING THEY APPEAR IN COURT NEXT MONTH. THIS IS WHEN JUDGE CUPP WILL LIKELY ANNOUNCE WHETHER HE WILL CONTINUE DELGADO’S TRIAL OR OFFICIALLY DECLARE A MISTRIAL, WHICH HAS OFFICIALLY BEEN REQUESTED BY THE DEFENSE. THE HEARING IS SET FOR MAY 14TH.
