WITH THE RECENT ANNOUNCEMENT AT MORE THAN 300 TRI CITIES WORKERS WILL BE LAID OFF FROM THEIR JOBS AT AGC THE CITY OF KINGSPORT AND THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE ARE WORKING TO HELP THOSE WORKERS FIND A NEW JOB. THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE IS SUPPLEMENTING THE HELP ALREADY OFFERED BY AGC. ACCORDING TO CITY OFFICIALS, DOMTAR AND EASTMAN ARE CURRENTLY HIRING AND IT HOPES THOSE COMPANIES CAN PROVIDE JOBS FOR AT LEAST SOME OF THOSE DISPLACED EMPLOYEES. THE AGC ANNOUNCEMENT EARLIER THIS WEEK WILL AFFECT 100 WORKERS IN ITS KINGSPORT OFFICE, AND 240 PEOPLE AT THE HAWKINS COUNTY PLANT. AGC OFFICIALS SAY THE LAY OFFS COULD BEGIN AS EARLY AS NEXT WEEK.
