A GATE CITY VIRGINIA DENTIST ACCUSED OF CAUSING A BOATING ACCIDENT IN SULLIVAN COUNTY THAT LEFT ONE PERSON DEAD AND ANOTHER INJURED NEARLY TWO YEARS AGO HAS HAD HIS TRIAL DELAYED. DR. WRAY CHAFFIN II OF PINEY FLATS IS CHARGED WITH CRIMINALLY NEGLIGENT HOMICIDE, NEGLIGENT BOATING, AND FAILURE TO RENDER AID. THE CHARGES STEM FROM A BOATING ACCIDENT IN JUNE OF 2006 IN WHICH HE ALLEGEDLY FAILED TO STOP AND OFFER ANY HELP AFTER HE CRASHED HIS VESSEL INTO ANOTHER BOAT ON BOONE LAKE. THAT CRASH KILLED 63 YEAR OLD WAYNE CROSS AND LEFT JAMES CLARK INJURED. THE TRIAL WAS POSTPONED BY A SULLIVAN COUNTY JUDGE AFTER A KEY WITNESS WAS CALLED TO DUTY BY THE ARMY AND COULD NOT BE PRESENT FOR THE TRIAL ON APRIL 21ST. A NEW TRIAL DATE HAS BEEN SET FOR SEPTEMBER 5TH.
