THE STATE IS EXPECTED TO WRAP UP ITS CASE TODAY IN WASHINGTON COUNTY TENNESSEE CRIMINAL COURT IN THE TRIAL OF AN ELIZABETHTON MAN ACCUSED OF KILLING AN ELDERLY JOHNSON CITY MAN NEARLY TWO YEARS AGO. 30 YEAR OLD ROGER GREENWELL IS CHARGED WITH FIRST DEGREE MURDER IN THE BEATING DEATH OF 67 YEAR OLD ROBERT PETERSON. A DNA SPECIALIST FROM THE TBI, CHARLES HARDY TESTIFIED YESTERDAY THAT BLOOD EVIDENCE FOUND ON GREENWELL’S BLACK REEBOK TENNIS SHOES WERE A MATCH TO PETERSON’S DNA. PROSECUTORS CONTEND A HAMMER WAS THE MURDER WEAPON USED TO KILL THE ELDERLY MAN IN MAY 2006. ONCE THE STATE FINISHES WITH ITS WITNESSES THEN DEFENSE ATTORNEY DON SPURRELL WILL BEGIN HIS CASE. TESTIMONY COULD GO INTO TOMORROW.
