Governor Timothy Kaine has announced action on a slew of bills, including legislation tightening regulations on payday lenders. Kaine said Monday that he proposed a few technical amendments to the payday loan measure. The General Assembly will reconvene April 23rd to vote on the changes, which do not substantially alter the bill. The legislation would extend the amount of time borrowers have to repay a high-interest, short-term payday loan and effectively limit how many borrowers can get each year. Kaine also signed legislation cracking down on animal fighting
and offered 41 amendments to the state budget. Most of the budget
amendments are technical. Six require $7.4 million in additional
spending.
