JOHNSON CITY LEADERS HAVE DECIDED TO WAIT BEFORE TAKING ACTION ON AN ORDINANCE THAT CALLS FOR TRAFFIC CAMERAS TO BE INSTALLED AT CITY INTERSECTIONS. MOST COMMISSIONERS WANTED MORE TIME TO REVIEW A LEGAL OPINION OF THE DRAFT ORDINANCE. IF APPROVED ON THREE READINGS, CAMERAS COULD BE INSTALLED IN ABOUT SIX MONTHS AT THE TOP SEVEN INTERSECTIONS IN TERMS OF COLLISION FREQUENCY. A RECENT TRAFFIC STUDY SHOWED 800 MOTORISTS RUNNING RED LIGHTS AT THE WEST MARKET STREET AND NORTH STATE OF FRANKLIN ROAD INTERSECTION. CITY LEADERS WILL RECONSIDER THE ORDINANCE ON FIRST READING AT THE APRIL 15TH MEETING.
