A House panel has narrowly advanced a proposal by a Northeast Tennessee lawmaker that would require the state lottery to abandon computerized drawings for its games. According to House Minority Leader Jason Mumpower, a Bristol Republican, the glitch prevented duplicate numbers to be drawn for nearly a month. Lottery officials estimate it would cost about $5 million a year to return to drawing numbered balls for the Cash 3, Cash 4, Pick 5 and Lotto Plus games. The bill has advanced to the full House State and Local Government Committee. Meanwhile, Lottery President and CEO Rebecca Hargrove told the panel the errors have been fixed.
