Defense attorneys for William Morva will present their case today as they try to persuade a jury in Abingdon to spare his life. The Washington County Virginia Circuit Court jury convicted the 26-year-old Morva yesterday of killing a hospital security guard and a sheriff’s deputy after escaping from jail custody. Prosecutors are requesting the death penalty for Morva. The victims’ widows and several co-workers said they have to take medication and receive counseling. The trial was moved from Blacksburg because of difficulty in seating a jury there. A verdict could come as early as today.
