The Johnson City Symphony Orchestra Will Present The World Premiere Of A Composition By Johnson City Native Dr. Mildred Ellis On February 15. The Piece, “Keep Singin’,” Was Written In 1937 For Ellis’ Master’s Degree At The University Of Michigan. It Will Be The First Time The Orchestral Version Is Presented Publicly. Ellis, Who Paved The Way As A Black Woman In Classical Music, Will Also Be Honored With A Plaque At 11 A.M. Saturday At The Langston Centre. The Ceremony And The Concert Celebrate Her Remarkable Life And Contributions To Both Classical Music And The Appalachian Community.
