A Newport Man Is Charged With Second-Degree Murder Following A Weekend Shooting. The Cocke County Sheriff’s Office Says 40-Year-Old Eric Banks Allegedly Shot 35-Year-Old Daniel Messer In The Face With A 44-Magnum Yesterday Morning. Banks Told Deputies He’d Been Drinking And The Gun Discharged While He Was Releasing The Hammer. Messer’s Body Was Sent To Knoxville For An Autopsy. Banks Is Expected To Go Before A Judge Today For A Bond To Be Set.
