According To A Poll By East Tennessee State University’s Applied Social Research Laboratory, 24 Percent Of Tennesseans Experienced Hunger Last Year Due To Lack Of Funds. Research Noted Limited Access To Food Increases The Risk Of Chronic And Mental Health Issues And Negatively Impacts Children’s School Performance. Over Half Of The Respondents Earned Less Than $50,000 Annually, With The Rest Earning Up To $100,000. Nearly Half Of All Respondents Could Not Afford Extra Food.
