The Tennessee Occupational Safety And Health Administration Has Opened An Investigation Into Reported Employee Deaths At Impact Plastics In Erwin During Recent Flash Floods. The Current TBI Investigation Takes Precedence, But TOSHA Will coordinate With TBI And Local Officials To Begin Their On-Site Inspection. Impact Plastics Has Not Yet Filed A Required Fatality Report. The OSHA Investigation, Which Could Take Up To Six Months, Will Examine The Site, Company Records, And Interview Employees. Final Findings Will Be Made Public. This Comes After A Request By 1st District Attorney General Steve Finney For The TBI To Investigate Possible Criminal Violations. Allegations Suggest Impact Plastics’ Management May Have Delayed Or Prevented Employees From Leaving As Floodwaters Rose. Three Employees Have Been Found Dead And Three Others Are Still Missing.
