For Only The Second Time In 50 Years, The Annual Crossing Of The Watauga River To Commemorate The Gathering Of The Overmountain Men Was Canceled Due To Rising Water Caused By Recent Storms. Despite The Cancellation, Re-Enactors At Sycamore Shoals Shared Stories Of The Historic March From 1780. Today, The Re-Enactment Continues As The Overmountain Men Begin Their Trek To Roan Mountain, Recalling The Tough Journey To The Battle Of Kings Mountain. The Commemorative March Will Conclude In North Carolina On October 7th.
