The U.S. Forest Service Has Closed Two Appalachian Trail Shelters In Carter County, Including The Roan High Knob Shelter, The Highest On The Trail. Both The Roan High Knob And Laurel Fork Shelters Were Closed Due To Safety Concerns. The Roan High Knob Shelter Requires Extensive Repairs, With Work Expected To Start Next Year And Finish By October 2025. Camping Is Still Allowed Near Roan High Knob.
