There Is No Threat To The East Tennessee State University Campus Or The Public After A Person Was Taken Into Custody Friday For Possessing What Appeared To Be A Real Gun, Which Was Later Determined To Be A Pellet Gun. Campus Police Responded To Reports Of An Individual Acting Erratically Near The D.P. Culp Student Center. The Person, Who Is Not An ETSU Student, Was Detained, And No Further Danger Is Present. ETSU Officials Thanked Their Public Safety Team And Those Who Reported The Incident For Helping Maintain Campus Safety. Charges Have Not Yet Been Disclosed
HERE IS THE PUBLIC STATEMENT MADE BY ETSU: Earlier this afternoon, East Tennessee State University Campus Safety received a report of an individual acting erratically near the D.P. Culp Student Center. They responded immediately and were able to contain the situation. The individual involved is now in custody. Early reports indicated the man had a gun, but it was determined to be a pellet gun. He was not a student, and there is no ongoing threat to campus.
